John W. Bondhus
February 13, 1921 - October 30, 2008

John Wesley Bondhus was born on February 13, 1921, in Amo Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Thomas and Carrie (Thompson) Bondhus. He was baptized at early age and later confirmed at the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden. John received his education in country school through the eighth grade and then attended Storden High School where he graduated in the Class of 1939. He then attended Augustana College for a year before coming back to rural Storden to farm.

On June 16, 1944, John was united in marriage to Shirley Mead at the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden. In February of 1951, Shirley passed away. On May 31, 1952, John was united in marriage to Christine (Egenes) Earp. After marriage, they farmed outside of Storden until retiring in 1991. For a couple of years, they remained on the farm until moving into Windom. John remained in Windom until becoming a resident of the St. John's Lutheran Home in Springfield in November of 2006. On October 30, 2008, with family be his side, John passed away in Springfield at the wonderful age of 87 years.

John was a lifetime, dedicated member of the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden where he was a trustee, on the building committee, ushered, and took care of the cemetery for many years. He also was a member of the Amo Town Board for twenty-seven years.

John had many enjoyments in life which included woodworking with black walnut in which he made crosses and candle sticks at the Amo Lutheran Church and fishing at Leech Lake where he had a mobile home.

John's grateful family includes his wife of fifty-six years, Christine Bondhus of Springfield; one brother, Truman Bondhus of Westbrook; two sisters, Hilma Ahl of Lafayette, Minnesota; and Evelyn Spielman of Hudson, WI; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Shirley; two brothers, Theodore "Ted" Bondhus and Ole Bondhus; one sister, Agnes Cohrs.
