Donald Lewis

Donald J. Lewis, 90, Green Bay, passed away Monday, May 30, 2005, at a local nursing home, after a short illness, surrounded by his family. He was born June 3, 1914 to the late Seraphine and Cora (Aebischer) Lewis in the Town of Hobart. On May 15, 1934, he married Florence Devroy at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on August 11, 1990. He and Florence ran the V-Tavern, Suamico in their earlier years. During World War II, he was a welder at the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay. Later he drove truck for Gateway Transportation, retiring in 1975. Donald was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and an active member of the Teamsters Local 75 Retirees. He loved playing cards, fishing, hunting and playing pool. He particularly enjoyed time up north at his cottage at Twin Bridges. Donald was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed time spent with them. He will be missed very much by his entire family. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Shirley, Green Bay; Dale and Kathy, Green Bay; and Dean and Betty, Howard; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Lewis-Anderson and Don Anderson, Boulder, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, Linda (Michael) Deicher; Julie (John) Splawski; Suzanne (Gregg) Schilawski; Ann Marie (Sean) Schroepfer; David Lewis (fiancee, Monica Matzke); Sharla (Darrell) Filtz; Annette (David) Nowak; Merry Beth (Steve) Scully; Kristine Zakowski; Carolyn Zakowski (fianc?, Andrew Hayes); and Timothy Zakowski; 16 great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, Carly Diecher; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Alfreda and Alvin Tilly, Howard and Leona Chefdore, Green Bay; and a very special friend, Della Schaefer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Lester Lewis. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 2, at Lyndahl Funeral Home where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue after 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. to celebrate Donald's life (on what would have been his 91st birthday) with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
