James Compton

James Compton, 69, Green Bay, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born April 22, 1936, to Bert and Lucille Compton. After serving his country in the U. S. Air Force, he married the former Barbara Freeman on February 1, 1958. Jim retired from Diana Manufacturing after 31 years of employment. He then ran Gleason Fibers for 3 years, finally retiring to his cottage up north for the summers. In winter, he would move back to Green Bay and drove for Waltco Inc. for years. Jim was regarded as one of the areas best Fastpitch Softball pitchers in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Jim enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and reading his collection of Louis Lamour books while sitting on his deck up north.
Along with his wife, Barbara, of 47 years, he is survived by three children and their families; Andy (Sherry) Compton, De Pere; Mary Beth Compton-Blodgett, Denmark; and Tim (Kelly) Compton, Kewaunee, 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Blodgett; Kimberly McKenna; Justin Holl; Michelle Compton; Jacob Holl; Tony Blodgett; Jesse Holl; Ryan Compton; Kyle Selissen; Brian Compton; Mac Compton; and Adam Compton; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Shannon and Riley; brothers and sisters, Bert Compton; Harold (Germaine) Compton; Bill (Dorothy) Compton; Betty Ozarowicz; Joyce (Floyd) Bessert; Dick (Nancy) Compton; Carol Baetsen; Mary Lou Garrity; George (Diane) Compton; brother and sister-in-law, Don Vannieuwenhoven and Mary Freeman; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernadine Ozarowicz, Bernice Klimczk and Ella Vannieuwenhoven; brothers-in-law, Andy Ozarowicz, Emil Klimczk and Ron Garrity Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Arlene and Gladys Compton.
