Elmo Schlei

Elmo Gustave Schlei, 88, Green Bay, died at home on Friday afternoon, Sept. 1, 2006. Born in Wausau, WI on January 28, 1918, he was the son of the late Elmo W. and Anna (Fraedrick) Schlei. Elmo served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1944 as a Technical Sergeant, 17th Fighter Squadron, 5th Air Force. His tour of duty included Australia and New Guinea. Elmo married Florence Le Mieux on Dec. 19, 1944 in Pratt, Kansas; she preceded him in death on March 10, 1986. In April, 1989 Elmo was united in marriage to Luella McIntyre. Elmo was employed by Wisconsin Public Service for many years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Brown County Sportsmen's Club and belonged to Theodore Roosevelt Lodge #322, Free and Accepted Masons.
Elmo is survived by his wife, Luella; two sisters: Elaine (Milton) Henderson and Betty (Herman) Reckelberg; sister-in-law: Donna Schlei; one daughter: Mary Anna (David) Edlbeck; one granddaughter: Melissa (George) Nishiotis; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Adeline, and one brother, Donald.
Friends and family may call after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at Lyndahl Funeral Home where a Masonic memorial service will take place at 7:00 p.m. followed immediately by funeral services with Chaplain Steven Fewell officiating and concluding with military honors. Interment will take place in Fort Howard Memorial Park. A memorial has been established for Unity Hospice.
Elmo's family would like to thank Dr. Robert Mead and the staff of Unity Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion that they provided.
