Joseph J. Charlier

Joseph J. Charlier, 75, Green Bay, died Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2009, surrounded by family at his home following a long illness. He was born on Aug. 24, 1933 in Lincoln, WI to the late Joseph and Constance Charlier. On Feb. 7, 1953, he married the former Mary Jane Rhoades at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay. He retired from Fort James (now Georgia Pacific) in 1996, after 43 years. Joe and his family operated a business making signs and other custom wood products. He loved his family and the time he spent with them -- whether working or at the cabin up north.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane; six children and their spouses: Wendy Charlier, Green Bay, Tom and Kim Charlier, Pocatello, ID, Shirley "Punk" and Jack Besaw, Green Bay, Jean and Russ Besaw, Green Bay, Joe, Jr. and Tina Charlier, Green Bay, and Margaret and Jeff Myers, Columbus, GA; 11 grandchilden: Jason, Keith and Scott Charlier, Jenny Miller, Johnny Charlier, Stacy Besaw, Tracy Larscheid, Kristy Besaw, Joey and Shaun Charlier and Nicole Huckaby; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers: Harvey, Edwin and Orville; and one sister, Lorraine.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 12th Ave. at Ninth St., where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m.
Joe's family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Unity Hospice - especially Nancy, Sharon and Deacon Bob - and Sister Toni of St. Joseph Catholic Church for the outstanding care and support that they provided.
