Donald Nyberg

Donald K. Nyberg, age 78, died October 24, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born July 16, 1931 in Ironwood, MI to the late Axel and Aune (Maki) Nyberg. On October 13, 1950, he married Margaret Brenning in Washburn, WI; she preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1997. He worked as a foreman for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years and sailed the Great Lakes for Columbia Transportation on coal and iron ore ships, including the William F. Stiefel. He enjoyed camping, golfing and trips to Florida with his wife. On his birthday this year, he attended his 60-year class reunion in Ashland. Donald was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Green Bay, and Loyal Order of Moose #801, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow Moose members. He also enjoyed socializing daily with his group of friends at Bay Park Square.
He is survived by his children: Dorothy Lewandowski, Green Bay, Kathrine (Norbert) Wesoloski, Sun Prarie, Karen Derenne, Big Falls, Keith Nyberg, Green Bay, and Brian (Iris) Nyberg, Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren: Jason Stein, Chad Wesoloski, Melissa Deadman, Brandon Gauthier, Megan Gauthier, Bradley Derenne, Jacqueline Nyberg, and Andrea Nyberg; four great grandchildren Jaida Tong, Alexis Meicher, Peter Meicher, and Oceana Deadman; one sister and brother-in-law: Lois and James Dragon, Cary, NC; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Brian and Marcella Nyberg, Leavenworth, WA, and Eugenia Nyberg, Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including a special friend and neighbor, Gary Boucher.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by one daughter: Rae Ann Nyberg, and one brother: Kenneth.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where funeral services will take place at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Lange officiating. Interment in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Aurora BayCare Intensive Care Unit 3-D.
