Muriel VanLaanen, 81, of Green Bay died at home Friday, December 25, 2009. She was born to the late Louis and Florence (Rockwell) Rockendorf. She married Richard VanLaanen February 3, 1950 in Sturgeon Bay. He preceded her in death in 1987. She had been a music teacher in Ashwaubenon for nineteen years. Muriel loved playing Bingo at Oneida Casino where she developed many strong friendships. She lived for her family including grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her six children Jim VanLaanen, Steve and Roseanne, Phil and Lynette, Jeanne (Rick) Norgren, Rick and Julie, Paul and Denise, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Richard, she was preceded in death by sister Carol, and a brother Louis Jr.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where a Parish Wake Service will take place at 7 p.m.. Visitation will continue Wednesday at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St. from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial at 11:30a.m. with Rev. Benjamin Sember officiating. Entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. The family would like to thank the Green Bay Oncology, Dr. Jaslowski & Ruth, also the staff at St. Mary's Hospital.
