Ruth Scovell

Ruth M. Scovell, age 96, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2010 at The Santa Maria nursing home. She was born on April 23, 1913 to James and Flora (Powell) Moore in Streator, Illinois. On June 10, 1942, she married John M. Scovell in Green Bay. He preceded her in death June 8, 1994.

She later moved to Fargo, North Dakota where she attended school and graduated from North Dakota State University with a major in physical education. She traveled and worked around the country before settling down in Green Bay. She worked as the Aquatic Director at the YMCA and finished her career as the physical education teacher at St. Joseph's Academy.

Ruth enjoyed socializing with friends, playing bridge, swimming, vacationing in Door County, putzing in the garden, hanging out with her family, and being active while serving as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her three children: Nancy Vincent of Oshkosh, David Scovell of Green Bay, and Judy (Kurt) Scovell-Nesgood of Park Falls, Wisconsin. She is further survived by her brother Dr. James Moore of Montesano, Washington; grandchildren: Scott Vincent, Angela Stover, and Joshua Roemer; and great-grandchildren Rafer and Fallon Vincent, and Matthew Stover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John; three brothers: Dr. Gregory Moore, Dr. Rollin Moore, and Colonel Albert Moore; and her sister Sally Lyons.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 until 11 a.m. when a memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Randall Argall to officiate. Inurnment will take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.

Ruth's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution be made to the Green Bay YMCA or to the First Presbyterian Church of Green Bay.

The family would like to thank the staff of Santa Maria Nursing home for their special care and concern shown to Ruth.
