Ferne Vermeulen, age 98, loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Birch Creek Assisted Living. She was born October 11, 1912 to the late Arthur and Lyda (Anderson) Johnson. Ferne married her loving husband of 73 years, Victor Vermeulen, in Marquette, MI. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2006. She was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church. Ferne and Victor enjoyed many winters in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed golfing and bowling until the age of 90. Ferne was a patient, kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother who never complained. Her favorite saying was "So it goes".
Survivors include two daughters, June (Lyle) Andrews, Green Bay, Sharron (Jim) DeVillers, Largo, FL; 11 grandchildren, Cheryl (Terry) Winzenried, Linda (Joe) Roethle, David (Terri) Andrews, Steven Andrews, Laurie Andrews, Carla (Dave) Wech, Brad (Traci) Ponkratz, Christine (Phil) Salmon, Paul (Sue) Ponkratz, Pamela (Kevin) Vincent, Michelle Pleuss and Mike Davies; 23 great-grandchildren, Jeremy (Danielle), Stacy, Paul (Jing), Sarah, Corey, Jasmine, Kathryn, Tanya, Maranda, Nathan, Josh, Brianna, Kristie, Stephanie, Alexandria, Emily, Kira, Johnathon, Collin, Hunter, Mikayla, Matthew, Hadley; three great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Layla and Ayanna; one brother, Glen (Sally) Johnson; sister-in-law, Sadie Merchant; many thoughtful nieces, nephews and other relatives, friends and long time friends Betty Brisson and Eileen Werner.
In addition to her husband, Ferne is preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Garnet and Lowell Johnson and her grandson's wife, Pam Anders.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Lyndahl Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1350 Bond Street, from 10 to 11 A.M. where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Amy Engebose officiating. Burial will take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
