Richard Sturzl, 85, died Monday, October 25, 2010 in Neenah, WI. He was born on April 23, 1925 in Laona, WI, to the late John B. and Anna (Krause) Sturzl. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II on board the USS Sassafras. On April 10, 1948, he married the former Betty Basten at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Green Bay; she preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2005. In 1948, he began working for the Boston Building Company. In 1952, he founded Sturzl Construction as a homebuilder. He then became a general contractor and retired in 1983. Richard loved to travel and hunt with his sons and brothers "on the 80". Richard was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Fort Howard Council #5382 and 4th Degree #1197 Marquette Assembly. He was a member and past Regional Governor of the Green Bay Serra Club. He organized the grade school calendars for many years. In addition, he was a former member of the Brown County Home Builders Association. Richard was also a starting member of MarthaÃÆ'¢ï¿½ï¿½s Coffee Club. He was a member of the Crozier Society.
Survivors include his six children: Julie Beckstrom, Neenah, and her daughter, Christina (Jason) Jungwirth; Mike (Mary Lee) Sturzl, New Franken, and their children: Scott Maccoux, Kathryn (Chad) Jacobs, Nikki Black (Robert Weidner) and Anthony Sturzl; Mary Sturzl and her husband, Martin Tahija, Maple Grove, MN, and their son, Maxwell Tahija; Nancy (Kenneth) Dingle, Brooklyn Park, MN; Susan (Patrick) Glenn, Phoenix, AZ, and their children, Emily, Katelyn and Matthew Glenn; David (Virginia) Sturzl, St. Louis Park, MN, and their son, Nathaniel Sturzl; three great grandchildren: Elizabeth Jungwirth, Makenna Weidner and Jacob Jungwirth; one brother: James (Donna) Sturzl; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by one son-in-law: Gary Beckstrom, and five brothers: John, Francis, Sr., Ruben, Norbert and Robert Sturzl.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 9th Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dane Radecki, O.Praem officiating. Richard's dear friend, Rev. Richard Mauthe, will deliver the homily. Military Honors will follow the Mass. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established for the Green Bay Serra Club.
