Ernest Ehrbar, 88, Green Bay, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at a local hospital. He was born on June 28, 1922 in Herisau, Switzerland to the late Ernst and Emma (Zellweger) Ehrbar, and came to the U.S. with his family at the age of five. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture from UW-Platteville in 1948 and later a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin. On Nov. 24, 1949, he married the former June Christianson in Sturgeon Bay. Ernie retired from the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay in 1983 as Professor Emeritus after 35 years of service. He was Charter President of the NEW Zoo Boosters, President of Kiwanis International on both local and district levels and District Director of the University of Wisconsin Extension Faculty. He was also a member of the Green Bay Redevelopment Authority, Green Bay Area Visitor and Convention Bureau and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Ernie and June enjoyed travelling and spent many winters in Texas after retiring. He loved family gatherings, especially Christmas and times at the cottage, when their grandchildren were there. Ernie was an avid Packers fan, loved to read and enjoyed taking walks.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, June; two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Bie Ehrbar, Portland, OR, and Gary and Mary Jo Ehrbar, Green Bay; one daughter and son-in-law: Terry and Del Olson, Sister Bay; seven grandchildren: Ethan Ehrbar, Lucas Ehrbar, Emma Ehrbar, Tony Ehrbar (fiance, Priya Koundinya), Katie (Matt) Sherman, Brady Olson and Brittany Olson; one sister: Emma Lehr, Monroe; three brothers-in-law: William (Imogene) Christianson, De Pere, Merle (Clarice) Christianson, Sturgeon Bay, and Millard Christianson, Sturgeon Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at Lyndahl Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 341 Wilson Avenue, where funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
