Calvin Cartier

Calvin E. Cartier, 85, passed away unexpectedly with his family at his side Sunday, May 8, 2011. He was born June 3, 1925 to the late Earl and Evelyn (Fontaine) Cartier in Green Bay. Cal was a 1943 graduate of Green Bay West High School. During World War II, he served his country in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Hornet. On June 19, 1948, he married Dorothy Kropp in Green Bay. He owned and operated Cal Cartier Plumbing from 1958 until 2000 and continued working until the age of 80. Cal enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Pelican Lake where much of his time was spent making wood. He also enjoyed deer hunting and making maple syrup. Cal was a hardworking, genuine and honest man who took pride in everything he did. He served as a wonderful role model for his children and grandchildren, and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; three children and their spouses, Bruce Cartier, Green Bay; Penny and Dan Ott and Tim and Val Cartier, all of Suamico; 8 grandchildren, Abigail, Gregory, Michael (Sarah), Rick (Jill), Carli (Josh), Tim, Kristen and Brittany; 6 great-grandchildren, Ryker, Blake, Michael, Madeline, Mason and Sicily; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Bobbi Cartier, Ripon and Jeanne Cartier, Green Bay; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Don DeNamur, Green Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the close group of eight couples - "The Underpass Gang" - with whom he and Dorothy shared 50 years of friendship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merlin.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, May 11, at Lyndahl Funeral Home. Visitation will continue after 10 am Thursday at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1110 Echo Lane , where the funeral service will be held at 11 am with the Revs. Jill Connery and Randell Richter officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Bethany United Methodist Church or Bellin Hospital Critical Care Unit.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Bellin Hospital for their compassion.
