Melba Solka

Melba J. Solka, 78, Green Bay, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. She was born on October 4, 1932 in Republic, MI to the late Emil and Lina (Nyback) Hangas. Melba married William J. Solka on October 25, 1958 in Republic, MI. She graduated from Republic High School and Suomi College. Melba was a member of the Twilight Twelve, the Brown County Extension and Calvary Lutheran Church. At the church, she was involved with Bible study and the church library. Melba worked at Bay Park Square Mall for 20 years as a hostess at the information desk. She enjoyed spending time with her family in Wisconsin and Michigan and was proud of her Finnish heritage.

Surviving are her husband, John Solka of Green Bay; her daughter, Melanie Solka of San Francisco, CA; two sisters, Ersel (Donald) Nichols and Dorinne (Dan) Kitch; two nieces, Kara and Krista Kitch; three nephews, Kevin (Jessica) Nichols, Kory (Michelle) Nichols and Nathan (Heidi) Kitch. She is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Nancy (Ken) Floyd and two infant sisters.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Lyndahl Funeral Home from 4 pm until 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 15 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Road, from 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating. Interment will be at Republic Cemetery in Republic, Michigan.

A memorial fund has been established.
