Ralph D. Paullus, 91, of Glendale, Arizona died November 4, 2011. Memorial Services will be held at the Sun City Christian Church on Wednesday, November 9, at 1:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Hampton, IA, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.
Ralph was born August 2, 1920, in Hampton, IA, the son of Fred and Clara Brandt Paullus. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1938. Ralph attended the University of Iowa, 1939 and 1940.
Ralph served in the Navy from 1942 - 1946, being stationed in the South Pacific. On April 6, 1946, Ralph married Bessie Brass of Iowa Falls at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Ralph farmed for 23 years and in 1969 purchased the Hampton Tax Service from his uncle. In 1989, Ralph sold the business and moved to Sun City, Arizona.
He served two terms on the Hampton School Board and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0183 of Hampton and was also a member of the Hampton Country Club. Ralph was an active member of Sun City Christian Church and a charter member of First Christian Church in Hampton.
Ralph and Bessie enjoyed dancing, traveling, cruises, entertaining friends, and family. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was secretary of the church bowling league for several years. He volunteered at Banner Boswell Hospital and the Sundome.
Ralph is survived by three daughters, Diane Samsal of Bloomington, MN, Linda Schomburg of Rosemount, MN, and Peggy Rodemeyer of Mesa, AZ; three sisters; Marie Arctander Rodemeyer, of Hampton, Mildred Pingel, of Hampton, Phyllis Herman of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Lois Paullus, of Hampton, sister-in-law Yvonne Paullus, of Sun City, AZ, and very special friend Mary Harper of Sun City.
Other living family members are eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bessie, and two brothers, Robert Paullus of Hampton, and Rex Paullus of Sun City.
