In loving memory of

George Garbis
March 19, 1933 - May 27, 2010

George Garbis was born in Romania, and at the age of 12 he immigrated to Greece.
He attended University of Greece in the early 50"s, in 1961 he married his wife and they remained together for 48 years.
They have 2 children, Konstantino, and Kristalia, and four grandchildren.
George worked for the Hallandale Jewish Center for the past 31, managing the temple,
and its operations.
He was loved by many, and feared by few, he was known for his kind heart, and giving nature!
He always tried to help anyone who needed help, and he took great pride when doing so....
He was a man of strong will, powerful personality, stubborn, proud, dignified, extremely intelligent, he had a tremendous capacity to love, and lack the patience to hate!
He did not waste his energy in petty arguments, unless you spoke about religion, and politics.
George Garbis lived like he wanted to live, and died like he wished he would...in his sleep,
calling his wife's name in whisper.
We will miss babaka mou, but we know we will see you again....just look for our familiar smiles, smiling back at you in Heaven.

Tributes

George Garbis wrote on Aug 20, 2016:

"George Garbis was a man unlike I have ever met since, he was singular, deep as any Greek philosopher, & was a better man to me than my own Father. I can only hope to realize the kind of success, & happiness that he knew in life. He truly led by example, & had integrity I have witnessed no where else in life, my thoughts often come back to his words of wisdom, & I can always hear his voice reminding me of whats good in life, & to rejoice in what we have. I may never be a pillar of manhood in a classical sense, like he was in his generation, or a staple of financial fortitude to his entire family, but I can never forget him. In my darkest hours I think back to example that he set for me as a child, & reason, & hope return to my life. That man put me on a pedestal as a child, & helped propel me more towards my goals than anyone else in my life, I owe him more than I can ever repay. I love you papou, & pray sooo sincerely that I can see you again when this is all over, I miss your hugs papou, & it feels like just yesterday you were squeezing me sooo tight......"
