"These days of preparing for the service dedicated to saying farewell to you for now will be hard, but it is a privelege to have had such a father as you to be honoring in this way. I love you. Guess What? Love Your Little Girl"
Domenick Altieri, 86, long-time resident of Hollywood, Florida passed away on May 8, 2010 at the home of his daughter Nicki in Fullerton, California. He was born on June 30, 1923 to Frank and Angela Altieri. He was reunited in death with his parents, his wife Marilyn Thompson Wray Altieri, and his daughter, Angela Altieri. There were several things in his life of which he was most proud and which made him most happy: his wife and their marriage of 45 years before her death in 1995; his five children; his service to his country in WWII in the Army Air Force as an airplane armament mechanic and trainer; and his years of work with children and teachers in Broward County as principal at Boulevard Heights, Apollo Middle, Pasadena Lakes and Hollywood Park Elementary. He was born and raised in New York but moved to Hollywood in 1958 and considered Florida his true home. He had a favorite saying, “I wasn’t born in the South, but I got here as fast as I could.” He leaves to cherish his memory his children and their spouses - Liz “Betty” Altieri and Wilson Rankin of Radford, VA; Nicki Altieri and Frank Jahn of Fullerton, CA; Frank and Jan Altieri of Davie, FL; and Lynette and Mike Mills of Tampa, FL. His grandchildren will miss their special “Poppa” – Robbie and Ben Hiltonsmith, Shawn Altieri, Jesse Coward, Melissa and Shana Crapsey, Vanessa Wilson, Domenick Altieri, Matt Dolson, and Tyler, Kaelyn and Hailey Mills. The family will receive friends at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Gardens Home on Wednesday from 6-8 pm, where funeral and burial services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., followed by a reception for family and friends at the Fred Hunter Community Center. Nick was a generous supporter of many charities and organizations over the years including the Nature Conservancy, Florida Audubon Society, Planned Parenthood, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial contribution.
