"As a kid, I didn't realize that Mrs. Weidemann was an accomplished human being, not simply Skot and Dale's mom. Doris was gracious, perfect with that gift she lived, to accept people for who they were. A constant champion for peace as a global agenda would be an accurate description of this life. What a blessing she was to those who knew her - nobody else could be Doris Weidemann. "

"Wes and I first visited Doris together around 2001. Therefore, I have not known her as long as most of the folks in her life. However, our connection became deep and meaningful.
As her health failed, Doris suddenly found herself in a Nursing Home. It became increasingly difficult to communicate. Was each visit the last?
Sometimes the purpose of a life connection becomes clearer than other times. Doris' 97th birthday deeply clarified for me the role I played in her life. Our visit was so profound the words are difficult to form.
doris warmly greeted each of us with her trademark squeals of delight and huge warm hugs, her eyes aglow with pleasure.
As we sat outside in the hot sun Doris suddenly turned to me and said, "You are a coneector, your light shines in both directions." Over the last few years Doris had rarely communicated verbally more than very basic concise responses, so this gave us our first glimpse of the depth in store for us.
She wanted reassurance that I would take care of Wes for her.
She talked of other orbits that she went to and seeing herself taken to the funeral home. "This might be it" as she forced herself to stay present with us.
Just a few short weeks later Dale called and Wes and I shared our love with her just hours before she left. I am eternally grateful for this gesture of Dale's.
We all have rich memories of this feisty lady. Mine include being silly together, singing together and of course, all those great hugs.
What a gift Doris has been to me. Her love a balm. We related soul to soul. As I meditated the morning she passed I felt a deep peace and heard the words, "I have landed." So Doris!
Doris was a magnificent and huge gift in my life. Her memory is with me with admiration."

"Grandma Doris was a very significant influence in my life and I have countless, wonderful--especially Lakeland Avenue--memories of the activities and time we spent together...cooking, piano playing, photo ops--and organizing or framing the subsequent pictures--gardening, Green Lake, First Baptist events and so many more. Although I'm unable to be there today with the family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Stephanie
