Robert "Bob" James Jurevitz
DAVENPORT, Iowa--Robert "Bob" James Jurevitz, 48, passed away peacefully with his loving family beside him on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will take place in Mt. Mariah Cemetery, Hillsdale, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jurevitz family for college education, or to the ALS Foundation.
Bob was born in 1962 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of James "Jim" and Georgia Lick Jurevitz. He was a middle child between four sisters, Lisa, Linda, Lorrie and Leanne.
In 1981, he graduated from Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Illinois, and in 1986 from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. He was a high school state champion wrestler for Riverdale in the 167 pound division in 1981. He also excelled in football in both high school and college and was a Hall of Fame recipient at both levels. In his earlier days, Bob was a substitute teacher at Central High School and JB Young Jr. High. He coached wrestling at the varsity level at Central High School, and coached football for the Bettendorf Bulldogs.
On January 20, 1990, he married Tracey Carter in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had four beautiful children together, Mitchell, Keaton, Lexy and Brandy.
In 1994, Bob and Tracey bought a farm in Cordova, Illinois, and farming became his livelihood until his recent illness with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Desease). Bob enjoyed spending valued time with his family on the farm, and working side by side with his father Jim. He loved his mom's daily home cooked lunches. He also enjoyed hunting of all kinds and special times with "the guys" playing cards. He most enjoyed spending quality time with his wife Tracey and their children. He enjoyed watching all of his children's sporting events. The night before he passed away he made it to the UNI Dome to watch his son Keaton play in the state football championship game. He was such a proud father and family meant everything to him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Tracey Jurevitz; sons, Mitchell (20) and Keaton (18), daughters, Lexy (16) and Brandy (14); his parents, James and Georgia Jurevitz of Hillsdale, Illinois; sisters, Lisa Randall and husband, Bob, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Linda Hoehn and husband, Pete, of Port Byron, Illinois, Laura Jackson and husband, Todd, of Hillsdale, Illinois, and Leanne Armetta and husband, Jim, of Naperville, Illinois; many special nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles; a very special aunt, Helen Gorham; and a special cousin, Kathy Gierlus, both of Illinois City.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Lick.
