Roy J. Picht of Ames, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Rolling Green Village, Nevada. Family visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, Ames. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 with one hour prior for visitation at Sheldahl United Methodist Church. Burial at Story Memorial Gardens, Ames.
Roy was born March 1, 1924 to Roy H. and Ina G. Picht in Kanawha, IA. He graduated from Fernald High School. Roy served his country as a Sargent in the Air Force in World War II.
He married Margaret (Buche) on January 10, 1953 and they lived in Ames. Roy was employed at Iowa State University as an Engineering Machinist until his retirement. In his spare time he enjoyed being with family, tinkering and 8th Air Force Society outings. He was a member at Sheldahl United Methodist Church.
Surviving family are his daughters, Cindy (Steve) Barrowcliff and Josh and Katie of Ames; Sandy (Kent) Daugherty and Marcus and Shannon of Slater; son-in-law Ken (Ruth) Simmons and Nelson (Megan) and Travis (Katie) and great-grandchildren, Tehmin, Bella, Dylin of Georgia; brother Ralph Picht of Bella Vista, Arkansas; sister in-laws Phyllis Martens of Huxley, Velma (Don) Reese of Madrid; brother in-laws, James Buche of East Moline, IL, Charles (Darlene) Buche of Madrid; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and daughter Nancy.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Sheldahl United Methodist Church or to the family.
