Jack L. Stake
September 3, 2010

Jack Lee Stake was born on June 4, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Coes Clark and Lois Lillie (Flynn) Stake. Jack entered into eternal peace on September 3, 2010 at the Elm Heights Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jack spent nearly his entire life in the community of Shenandoah. He attended Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1952. On September 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hovermale in Shenandoah. Jack served his country as a soldier in the United States Army. He earned the title of Corporal and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany for 2 years. He received a honorable discharge in 1955.

Jack held many different jobs throughout his life. Most people knew him through his work at Farmaster and at Eaton's where he retired in 1990. Jack loved restoring and showing cars. His favorite was his 1941 Ford, which is pictured on the back of the folder. Fishing, farming, gardening and collecting antiques were also favorites of Jack's. He enjoyed attending stock car races with his son Kevin and working in the pits. Above all else, family was most important to Jack. He enjoyed spending time with his children and his two granddaughters and was proud of all of their accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Beverly Almquist and nephew Randy West.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Phyllis of Shenandoah, children Kevin Stake and Teresa Olney of Red Oak, Cindy Stamps and husband Danny of Corning and Kenny Stake and wife Rose of Cooper City, FL; granddaughters Oakley Stamps and Tasha Stamps of Corning; sisters Carolyn West and husband Duane of Farragut and Loreene Stoaks and husband Ron of Shenandoah; other relatives and a host of friends.

"Phyllis, I was so sorry to learn of Jack's passing. I will never forget him telling me about our great danes paying visits to our various country neighbors.
