"My prayers are with you and your family, Ernie Blank Jr."
Lyle Douglas Green, son of Roy Orsen and Mable Dorothy (Dahlgren) Green, was born on May 20, 1948 in Hamburg, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 on the family farm north of Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 63 years, 7 months, 21 days.
The Green family lived on a farm north of Imogene at the time of Lyle's birth. In 1950 the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa before moving back to Shenandoah in 1951. In 1952, they purchased the family farm north of Shenandoah where Lyle would reside the majority of his life. Lyle attended the Shenandoah Community Schools graduating with the Shenandoah High School Class of 1966.
On February 7, 1968, Lyle was drafted into the Army during Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort Louis in Washington. He received the National Defense and Sharpshooter Rifle Medals. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Lyle worked for J. C. Penney's in Shenandoah. When Penney's closed he immediately began working for Bernie's Gambles Store. He continued in the same position when the business was later sold and became Shenandoah Home Furnishings. Lyle worked on Main Street for over 40 years.
In 1989, Lyle moved back to the farm to care for his mother, Mable. He cared for her for over 23 years until her recent passing in October of 2011.
Preceding Lyle in death were his parents. Survivors include his two brothers, Ronald Green and his wife Kathy and Curtis Green all of Shenandoah; sister, Atoya Oliver and her husband Steve of Sac City, Iowa; 16 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends and loved ones.

Your brother was a very special fellow......he was always so kind to me.....I never heard him say a bad word about anyone......and even thought I haven't lived in Sheandoah for a very long time I would occasionally see him on visits "home".....I enjoyed seeing his smiling face. The last time I saw him was at "Simpson's Cafe" eating with your mother.....we had a nice visit..and as usual...he was so kind and courteous. I am so sorry for your loss. "Lyle will be missed so much. In these later years I would always stop and see him at the store. He would make sure he told me any news he knew of our classmates. He would not gossip about town, just "catch me up" on members of our class. He loved us like family, and he viewed it important to share news and/or concern to keep us as a tight group. He also was so proud and excited to tell me he could retire and it was time to have fun. He was a kind dear man. We will all miss Lyle. "
"I'm saddened to hear of Lyle's passing. Lyle was a steady supporter of the Shenandoah community - one who could be counted on. Lyle also was one of the strongest supporters of our SHS Class of '66. He's a fellow class member who chose to remain in Shenandoah and who made the community his permanent home. I always would look Lyle up when I returned to Shen, and he was always welcoming and ready to talk and socialize. When our class had our five-year reunions, Lyle was unfailingly involved with the arrangements. I'm so sorry for your loss. Those of us who knew Lyle will truly miss him! Larry Danforth (Shen High Class of '66) Herndon, Virginia"
"Lyle was truly the kindest gentlest person I have ever met. He will be missed by so many people, both in Shenandoah and by those of us that have moved away. I saw Lyle every time we came back for a visit, and My mother would tell me that when she would see Lyle he always ask how I was and to tell me hi. I am sure he kept track of all of his class mates. It was a honor to know him. I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful family member Coleen Northrop"

"Lyle was a classmate of mine. He was a very unique man - unforgetable. All sorts of people would stop in to have a chat and catch-up on classmates and most of the rest of Shenandoah...he knew everything. He will be missed."
"Jan & I send our condolences to Lyle's family and his special friends. He was our man-on-the-street contact in Shenandoah for latest news and gossip. And his periodic evening telephone calls kept us up-to-date on the happenings in a wonderful community in the true heartland of America. We'll miss Lyle's gentle smile, his positive outlook and his warm friendship. Rest in peace my friend, Mike Swenson"

"I was so very sorry to hear of Larry's death. Over the years he has been so good to my mother, Doris Perry, who lives in Shenandoah. He set up her flatscreen TV in her apartment and helped her on more than one occasion when she wasn't sure about something with the TV. Larry and Mom often visited at the downtown cafe. I think he had a soft spot for elders like my mother. Such a sweet man that will surely be missed by the entire community. I wish you my heartfelt sympathy in this profound loss.
