John L. Schneider
August 8, 1922 - February 8, 2012

John L. Schneider, Sr., 89, of Keokuk died February 8, 2012 at his home.

He was born on August 8, 1922, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Bertha Maloney Schneider. On June 12, 1948 he married Lois Jean Bank at St. Mary's Church in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

He graduated from St. Peters High School. He worked at Seither Cherry for many years doing AC-Heating, sheet metal fabrication and installation. He moved to Branson Missouri in 1977 moving back to Keokuk in 1994. He entered the Army in 1946. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, served as city council member for two years and also served as interim Mayor. He was very active in Boy Scouts and received the Silver Beaver Award. John was an avid reader and user of the Public Library. He enjoyed building things with his great grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Schneider of Keokuk, Iowa; five children: Janet (Fred) Grams of St. Louis, Missouri; Jack (Jan) Schneider of Huntley, Illinois; Jeff (Kaye) Schneider of Hollister, Missouri; Jane Legan of Keokuk, Iowa; Dick Schneider of Warsaw, Illinois; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Schneider of Elgin, Illinois and one daughter-in-law, Melvonna Schneider of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Helen and Margaret; two brothers, Joe and Jim, and one son Larry.
