Lester Johnson
September 27, 1929 - April 6, 2009

Lester O. Johnson Jr., age 79, a long time resident of rural Ames died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames . A gathering of friends and family will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 at Gilbert Lutheran Church . A Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert.
Lester was born on September 27, 1929, the son of Lester Oliver Johnson, Sr. and Mable Hanson Johnson. He married Sally Andrews on October 1, 1950 in Oskaloosa , IA. They two have sons: John (Beth) of Ames and Jeff of Gilbert, and two grandchildren: Kimberly Johnson of Manchester and Mark Johnson of Ames . He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Pauline and Virginia, and one granddaughter, Krista Beth.
Lester graduated from Gilbert High School in 1947. He farmed until he went to work as a Lab Tech at the Iowa Department of Transportation for 28 years, retiring in 1992. Lester was a member of the Army Reserves, Gilbert Lutheran Church (serving on the Church Council), and was a former member of the Gilbert Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.
