Raphael "Ray" Andrew Leibold
December 27, 1922 - February 13, 2012

Raphael "Ray" Leibold age 89 of Boone, formerly of Ames, Iowa, passed away February 13, 2012, at the Eastern Star Home in Boone. Visitation will be 3:00- 7:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service Thursday, Feb. 16 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will take place at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Ray was born December 27, 1922 in Howard County, Iowa, the son of John H. and Theresa A. (Ott) Leibold. He grew up on a farm in York Township, Minnesota, where he attended country schools. He worked on the farm until he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. Ray married JoAnne Hurd on April 7, 1949 in Columbus, Georgia. The couple returned to central Iowa and moved to Ames. He started working in 1951 at the Iowa State University Dairy and later in Facility Planning and Management until he retired in 1984. Ray and JoAnne had purchased and managed the New Frontier Motel until 1978. The couple then started and operated Ray's Mower Repair. Ray was an avid Iowa State University football fan.

He is survived by his children: Linda Leibold of Waukee, Bonnie (Ken) Eernisse, Ronald Leibold and Bill Leibold all of Ames, and Cheryl (Edward) Mather of Boone, nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Cecelia Hall of LeRoy, MN and Lorrinea Munkel of Lime Springs, IA.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnne, daughter Donna Leibold, grandson Cory Walton and four brothers: Leo, Raymond, Edwin and Arnold.
