John Pavlat
July 6, 1933 - August 11, 2008

John R. Pavlat, age 75, a longtime Ames resident died Monday, Aug. 11, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wed Aug. 13 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Ames, with a gathering of friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in State Center, Iowa.
John was born July 6, 1933 in Kimball, Nebraska, the son of Byron and Dorothy (MacAdam) Pavlat. He graduated from Rapid City South Dakota High School, he then graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, before graduating from Iowa State University. While in college, John was a radio/television engineer for KOTA/KOZY and for WOI.
John taught at Iowa State University for forty one years in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He married Margaret Westphal on August 15, 1959, in State Center, Iowa. The couple then lived in Ames where they were members of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. John focused on his family and educating young people. He enjoyed the continuous learning process in the field of computer engineering.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret Pavlat of Ames, son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Pavlat, grandchildren Ashley, Whitney, Andrew and Luke Pavlat all of Pella.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Music Fund.
