Lyle S. Lupton
MUSCATINE, Iowa--Lyle S. Lupton, 89, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at his home in Muscatine.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Pastor Bruce Ursin will officiate. Casket bearers will be Brian Beavers, Jared Sneddon, Matt Horton and Michael Crews. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 400 Iowa Avenue, Muscatine.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home for the Wesley United Methodist Church in Lyle's name.
Lyle Samuel Lupton was born on March 1, 1922, in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Lyle L. and Helen E. Book Lupton.
He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 1942-1946.
On May 1, 1943, he married the love of his life, Mildred O. Englund, in Muscatine.
Lyle was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School treasurer and later church treasurer since 1976. He was a member of the Muscatine Rotary Club, the Elks, the Moose and the American Legion. He owned and operated Lupton and Toyne Printers for 40 years. He also enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone in Dixieland bands for 48 years. Lyle especially loved supporting his grandchildren in their activities and special events and camping with his family every summer, going all over the country.
Lyle will be deeply missed by his wife, Mildred Lupton of Muscatine; daughters, Linda K. Ford and husband, Allen, of Wilton, and Nancy Crews Ellinger and husband, John, of DeWitt; four grandchildren, Christina Beavers and husband, Brian, Janelle Sneddon and husband, Jared, Angela Horton and husband, Matt, and Michael Crews; seven great-granddaughters, Brielle and Avery Beavers, Brooklyn Horton, Sophia, Aubrey, Jillian and Hailey Sneddon; and his brother-in-law, Donald Schmidt.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Delbert Crews; and one sister, Lois Schmidt.
