Eleanor McKee
June 2, 1924 - June 28, 2008

Eleanor McKee age 84 along time Ames resident died Saturday June 28 at Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wed. July 2, at Collegiate United Methodist Church Nichols Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City, Iowa.
Eleanor was born in Shannon City, Iowa June 2, 1924.to Laurel (Mason) and Verne McKee. She graduated from Arispe Consolidated schools May 8, 1941. She attended Drake University and received a B.A. degree in Spanish in 1946. She taught a year at Orient High School followed by 6 years at Southern Christian Institute, Edwards, Mississippi. After leaving there she returned to school receiving her M.A. in Library Science from Vanderbilt University's Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. June 3, 1955. She then returned to Iowa and was the librarian at Spirit Lake High School for 2 years and in 1958 became Reference Librarian at ISU Library. In 1968 she transferred as Assistant Professor and head of the Search Unit-Order Department, at the Library. She retired in 1990.
Eleanor was a member of National Library Science honorary fraternity Beta Phi Mu, ISU Retirees, American Bible Society, State and local Genealogy Societies, She was a faithful member of Collegiate UMC in Ames where she was very active, serving on many boards and committees. Eleanor McKee lived in Ames, lowa from 1958 to 2001 when she moved to the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa.
Death has claimed this entire branch of the McKee family. Preceding her in death were her brother Everett in 1946, mother Laurel in 1963 and father Verne in 1977. Because she had no immediate family she considered Collegiate United Methodist Church members her family.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be directed to American Bible Society, or Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone.
