Edward Janssen

Edward Howard Janssen, one of thirteen children of George Harm and Sadie Marie (Klinger) Janssen, was born at Flasher, North Dakota on October 18, 1921. He grew up in the Pecatonica, Illinois area where he attended school. On October 25, 1942, Edward was inducted into the United States Army. While serving in Louisiana, Ed was injured in an accident and became disabled. He received a medical discharge on July 23, 1943.
Ed and Leanna Marie Fisher of Pacific Junction, Iowa were married at Creston, Iowa on June 15, 1948. Ed and Leanna made their home in Pacific Junction, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Mary Lulu, Lulu Marie, Nancy, Caleb, Lola, Loyd, and Leonard. Ed worked for Omaha Steel and later worked in area packing houses and as a farm laborer. Ed last worked as a security guard at the Glenwood State Hospital School in Glenwood, Iowa and had been retired for 22 years. His enjoyments included woodworking and making yard ornaments and decorations.
On January 8, 2003, Ed moved to Glen Haven Home in Glenwood where he died on July 5, 2003 at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 17 days. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Mary Lulu; sisters Anna Salmon, Mary Janssen, Clara Ingram, Mabel Swanson, Susie Anderson, Julia Kramel, Mae Erickson, Vernice Hurlbutt and brother George Janssen, Jr.
Edward is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leanna; children Lulu Truhlicka and her husband Frank of Hatton, North Dakota, Nancy Anglen and her husband Ralph of Pacific Junction, Caleb Janssen and his wife Elida of Swisher, Iowa, Lola Michaelsen and her husband Harry of Pacific Junction, Loyd Janssen and his wife Brigitte of Pacific Junction, and Leonard Janssen and his wife Tracey of Niceville, Florida; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sisters Alice Tourand and Louise Cox both of Bakersfield, California and brother Henry Janssen of Pecatonica, Illinois; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
