"John Cloyed sent the sad news to me about Bill's sudden passing. Cloyed, Waugh, Diz, and I were all his pals. I hadn't seen Bill in a while, but the guys always filled me in. As Waugh reported, we played lots of basketball. It's me in the yearbook photo dishing the ball off to Bill at his house. There was baseball too. It was Bill who made me the life-long Cardinal fan I am. Bill's dream was to fly. We were all so happy when he became a pilot. I fly too much, but in a passenger seat. If Bill had to go so soon, I hope he is somewhere in the cockpit. My deepest sympathy to all."
