Maxine Elaine Carnes, one of four children of Katherine Lily (Thomas) and William Henry Rainey, was born on her parents' farm in Mills County on September 18, 1933. Maxine grew up in the Glenwood, Iowa area and graduated from the Glenwood Community High School in 1951.
Maxine and Robert Earl Carnes were married at the Glenwood Christian Church on November 17, 1950. They made their home on Bob's farm south of Glenwood and were blessed with three children Mike, Pam, and Diane. Maxine worked as a waitress at the Comet Club and then for Aistrope Insurance and Cheyney Insurance. Maxine eventually purchased her own insurance agency in Glenwood- The Insurance Korner. Maxine enjoyed golf, reading books, cooking, antique shopping, and spending time with her family, four grandchildren and her great granddaughter. She was a member of the Glenwood American Legion Auxiliary and the Bellevue Auxiliary No. 3912 F.O.E. In 1998, Bob retired from farming and he and Maxine later moved to their home in Glenwood. They had been married nearly 52 years when Bob died on October 20, 2002.
Maxine continued to live at her Glenwood home until her health forced her to move to the Glen Haven Home. Maxine died at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, Iowa on March 3, 2004, having attained the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; step father Clyde McIntire; husband Robert Carnes; sister Kay Davis; and grandson Jon Michael Carnes. She is survived by her children Mike Carnes and his wife Debra of Glenwood, Pam Madison and her husband Brick of Glenwood, Diane Beattie and her husband Steve of Malvern, IA; grandchildren Natalie Carnes of Omaha, NE, Clint Madison, Corey Madison, and Nic Carnes all of Glenwood; great granddaughter Olivia Jones of Omaha, NE; sister Betty McLean and her husband Robert of Riverton, KS; brother Bill Rainey and his wife Fran of Glenwood; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

"hello everyone my name is Olivia Katherine Jones im Maxine's greatgranddaughter and i was only 6 months old when my grandpa Bob died so i dont remember much about him but i do know from my mom that he held my picture the whole time he was dying my grandma though i do remember i always called her GG [short for great grandma] and we would visit her almost every day but when she got sick i knew somthin was wrong because we only went to see her every once and awhile then she died and i was so sad. we lived in her house until my family grew to big but i will always love that house because it reminds me of her. thank you all for reading this and helping me get it out and ps im 13 now"
