"Still miss you everyday."
Nicholas James Bowen, the younger of two children of Douglas Lynn Bowen and Sheryl Jean (O'Dell) Bowen, was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 23, 1979. The family lived on a farm east of Malvern and Nick attended Chantry Elementary School through the 3rd grade. Nick was baptized and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Hastings. The family moved to a farm south of Hastings and Nick attended Nishna Valley High School, graduating in 1997. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where he was active in the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Following graduation, he was employed at Applied Underwriters in Omaha, Nebraska as an Assistant Team Leader.

Nick has always enjoyed music and was learning to play the guitar. He will be remembered for his strong will, constant smile, funny sense of humor and charming personality. Nick loved life and lived every day to the fullest.
Nick's life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis ended on March 21st in Seattle, Washington where he was waiting for a lung transplant. Nick died just two days before his 25th birthday. Organ donation was a priority for Nick and he was able to donate several organs at the time of his death. In his honor, please consider organ donation for yourself and those you love.

He is survived by his parents Doug and Sheri Bowen of rural Malvern; sister Julie Urban and her husband Matthew of rural Hastings; maternal grandparents Allen and Jean (Houser) O'Dell; aunts and uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
"Still miss you everyday."
"To Nick's Family -- I will always remember Nick's big smile and laugh. I am so sorry for your loss -- Nick's spirit for life will live on forever. "
"Doug, Sheri and family, I am so sorry to hear about Nick's death. The day he left for Seattle, he was a bundle of emotions (as, I'm sure, you all were). He seemed anxious, nervous, excited and ready for whatever the next step offered him. His determination and courage are inspiring. The unwaivering love and support he had from his family held him up and helped him stay strong. It was a joy to watch him grow from a baby into a mature, caring adult and I feel priveleged to have been able to participate, even in a small way, in his care. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dee Acquazzino"
"We both just wanted you to know, you and your whole family are in our thoughts and prayers, at this very difficult time. The death of someone so young has to be so very hard. I am sure Nick is with the angels watching over those he loved from above. I know you know, he will live in your hearts forever, so will always be with you"
"My family and I are extremely sorry to hear of the loss of Nick. He is one of my fraternity brothers from NWMSU, and also a fellow SWI graduate. I am from Stanton. He was loved by many people and positively impacted everyone he was around. He will be greatly missed. "
