In loving memory of

Edward W. Batten
July 1, 2009

Edward Wayne Batten, one of four children of Marjorie Ann (Achenbaugh) Batten and Galen Edward Batten, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 10, 1956. When Ed was three years old, his family moved from the Hastings, Iowa and Henderson, Iowa area to a farm east of Carson, Iowa. Ed was baptized at the Carson United Methodist Church where he grew up attending Sunday school and became a member of the church. He attended school and graduated from the Carson-Macedonia High School in 1974. He later graduated from the Gateway Electronics School in Omaha, Nebraska. Ed enjoyed farming with his dad several years before taking a position with the City of Carson's maintenance department in 1982.
From 1990 to 1993, Ed and Rhonda Ann Waterfield were married, and to this union their daughter, Brittney Irene was born. On January 4, 1988, Ed began working for the Pottawattamie County Department of Roads as a road maintenance operator. He took much pride in his work as with any craft, it comes with years of experience and patience.
Among the many things Ed enjoyed was working with his dad when they farmed the land. He grew up riding motorcycles, and enjoyed an occasional race or two. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand and was a devoted dad, son and brother. Ed died as a result of injuries suffered from a fall while at work near Macedonia, Iowa on December 30, 2004. He had attained the age of 48 years, 10 months, and 20 days. Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vera and Chet Davis and Sylvia and Ray Batten.
Ed is survived by his pride and joy- daughter Brittney Batten of Carson, IA; parents Marge and Galen Batten of Carson; sister Cindy Haack and her husband Don and their children Justin and Angela of Griswold, IA; brother Johnie Batten and children Jackie, Jesse, and Johnie Edward of Council Bluffs, IA; sister Julie Tippery and her husband Brian and daughter Jordan of Carson; devoted friend LeAnne Taylor of Carson; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Edward Batten Memorial Fund.
