In loving memory of

William E. Scott
November 30, -0001

Mr. Scott, age 62, died at his home in Randolph, Iowa on March 7, 2005.

On a snowy December night, the last day of the year to be exact, William Earl Scott made his entry into this world. His parents Archie Earl Scott and Anna Lucille Mintle Scott could not have been more proud. They gladly accepted the challenge of raising the young farm boy into the successful and responsible husband, father, grandfather and business man that he would become. He was later blessed with two siblings, a sister Kathryn Suzzanne and brother Clifford Dean.
School was important to Bill and he started his trek for knowledge at Pleasant Valley near the family home north of Malvern. After 8 years there, it was time to go to Malvern High where he never missed a day of classes in 12 years.
In the spring of 1961, he enrolled at Peru State Teacher's College to pursue a degree in Math and English. His roommate Larry Giesmann and cousin Gordon enjoyed many extracurricular activities, mostly of the sporting nature. Road trips to follow their Peru Bobcats, were among their favorites. These trips took the group to many towns throughout the Midwest and provided hours of conversation and discussion in the years to come.
After graduating from college, Bill accepted his first position with the Villisca Community School District teaching high school math. Soon after being hired, he was approached by the superintendent to help with the girl's basketball program. It seemed the new coach hadn't seen Iowa's 6 on 6 format and felt he needed a little help. Although Bill had no formal coach training, he accepted the challenge. He later received his coaching endorsement from Tarkio College. After seven years at Villisca, Bill moved his family north to Westside. There he taught and coached 3 years for the AR-WE-VA Schools. He was especially proud of the relationships he formed with his players and students. During his illness, those connections were cherished as he received many cards and letters from his former players and students.
In November of 1967, he met Carolyn Gail Brand, a shy physical education student-teacher from Sharpsburg, Iowa. Villisca was enjoying a very successful sports season and she soon joined in their after game trips to Red Oak for burgers. Bill eventually asked Carol, as he called her, out to see a movie. The rest is history as they were married on August 3, 1968.
Family would always be the top priority and theirs began in 1970 with the birth of their first daughter Danna Marie. It grew in 1972 as they were blessed with another daughter Nicole Allison. With more love to give, The Scott's added yet one more, a son Andrew Earl, in 1974. Bill took the art of parenting seriously and was the loudest voice in the crowd, first to man a stop watch at the track and always ready to practice for the next big game with his children. Taking pride in each of them, he never missed an event.
While Bill was growing up, he was very active in 4-H. He attended his first meeting of the Silver Creek Go-Getters September 8, 1954. Later his children would join the club, and he and Carol would step up as leaders. He also served as President of the Mills County Pork Producers and was on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a member of the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department and lay leader of the United Methodist Church.
During his farming days, the long hours kept him from pursuing his love of golf, a skill he acquired during his bachelor days at Villisca. Bill re-connected with the sport and found a new career in 1984 when he started working at the Randolph State Bank, where one of the perks was participating in monthly golf outings. At the bank, his first job was writing cash flow statements for farmers. After attending Ag Lender Conference, Ag Credit School, and Basic School of Banking his duties soon expanded. In 2001, he was promoted to Ag Credit Officer and Vice President. He enjoyed helping the bank to meet new challenges as they expanded to Essex and planned for their renovations in Randolph. Bill took great pride in their success and the achievements of his customers.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Archie Earl Scott Survivors include his mother Lucille Scott of Malvern, wife Carol of Randolph, children Danna and husband Kevin Hamele of Gretna, Nebraska, Nicole and husband Kirk Larsen of Papillion, Nebraska, Andrew and wife Jennifer and grandchildren Alexandria Nikkole and Zachary Earl of Kansas City, Missouri, sister Kathy and husband Tom Pearce of Malvern, brother Cliff and wife Brenda of Malvern, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, co-workers, and friends.

"Dear Carol and family, I was so sad to receive an email about Mr. Scott's passing. He was one of the most important and influential teachers I had. Although he was sometimed hard on me as a coach (I deserved it!), I had a tremendous amount of respect for him. He made my high school years better and I still tell friends how he nick-named me "Lanny Beeps". I well remember when you and Mr. Scott met. It was a big deal for all of us on the team! He seemed kind of shy when he was with you (sitting in the bleachers, etc.) and we loved seeing another side of our coach. I am getting some comfort today knowing that he's up in heaven with Mom and Dad now. Maybe they can organize a 6-on-6 girl's basketball team and Mr. Scott can coach and my dad can yell at the referees! My thoughts and prayers are with you all."

"Mrs. Scott and family: My deepest sympathy to your family at this time. May your many happy memories give you warmth and strength during this time of loss. I graduated from AWV in 1976 and played basketball for Coach Scott. Even though I live in Oregon, I keep in touch through The Observer and Janine Koch gave me the news about Coach Scott. He was a great math teacher and mentor and I am glad to have known him."

It was a great day for the Randolph community when your little purple Gremlin pulled into the churh parking lot. Bill's service to the church as a lay leader was appreciated. His great love of sports and his support of his children "
