Glenda Glee Perdue

Glenda Glee Perdue, one of ten children of William Howard Hummel and Gladys Glee (Turner) Hummel, was born on her parent's farm north of Oakland, Iowa on May 8, 1915. Her mother, Glee died when Glenda was only 14 years old. In addition to her school work and daily chores, Glenda was now looked to for help in caring for and raising her brothers and sisters.
February 22, 1932, Glenda and Darrell Edgar Perdue were married in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home near Oakland and were blessed with three children; Richard, Patricia, and William. In 1939, the family moved to Council Bluffs and Glenda continued to enjoy her role as a mother, wife, and homemaker.
In 1962, Glenda began working on the assembly line at the Peterson Radio Company. She worked for the radio manufacturer 15 years before retiring in 1977. In 1984, Glenda and Darrell moved to Pacific Junction, Iowa where she and her daughter Patricia worked together proving day care for area families.
Glenda and Darrell had been married 61 years when Darrell died on April 26, 1993. Glenda continued to live at her home in Pacific Junction and remained active in her family's lives. She loved to fish and camp and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she loved being with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Glenda died at her home in Pacific Junction on November 30, 2007 at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrell Perdue; son Richard Perdue; son-in-law Earl Hatcher; brothers Don Hummel and his wife Darece, Norman Hummel and Jack Hummel; and sister Veryldene Kolby and her husband Martin, sister-in-law Katherine Hummel; brother-in-law Lyle Bates.
Glenda is survived by her daughter Patricia Hatcher of Pacific Junction; son William "Bill" Perdue and special friend Tracy Andrews of Council Bluffs; brothers Harry Hummel and wife Ruby of Scribner, NE, Elwyn Hummel of Oakland, IA, Kenneth Hummel and wife Peg of Council Bluffs; sisters Marjorie Bates of Griswold, IA, and Rilma Hummel of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Helen Hummel of Oakland, IA; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
