Donna Louise Smith

Donna Louise Smith, the youngest of six children of Ella Ruby (Manchester) and Roy Rhinhard Zosel, was born on September 9, 1926 in Wadena, Minnesota. Donna grew up and attended school in Wadena.

On November 18, 1946, Donna and Hall Allen Smith were married in Brainerd, Minnesota and made their home in Alexandria, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Joseph Allen, Kay Shellee, Pamela Lou, Patrick Allen and William Allen.

Donna enjoyed being a wife and homemaker and caring for their children. She enjoyed cooking and all types of handcrafts, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and sewing. Donna and Hall moved to Oakland, Iowa approximately 10 years ago to be near family, but still regard themselves as Minnesotans by heart.

Donna had entered Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 26, 2007. She passed away on January 1, 2008, attaining the age of 81 years, 3 months and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Seaton and husband Ralph, Joyce Hess and husband Lyle; brother William Zosel; and brother-in-law Carl Holderbach.

Donna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Hall Smith of Oakland, Iowa; children Joe Smith and wife Joan of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Kay Evans and husband Dale of Oakland, Iowa, Pamela Danielsen and husband Robert of Davenport, Iowa, Patrick Smith and wife Susan of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Bill Smith and wife LuAnn of Carson, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; sisters Helen Holderbach of Brainerd, Minnesota and Ruth McKellep and husband Stanley of Wadena, Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial fund has been established.

Private interment will be held at a later date at the Fairview Pioneer Cemetery at rural Treynor, Iowa.
