In loving memory of

Betty L. Hansen
May 1, 2009

Betty Louise Hansen was born in Pacific Junction to Ruben and Pearl Ethel (McCluskey) Stille on June 6, 1925, the youngest girl in a family of nine children. She had four brothers, Albert Joseph, Walter Guy, Ernest Charles, and Lee LaCurgas, and four sisters, Leona Viola, Ila Fae, Margaret Pearl, and Bedah Ann. At a very young age, Betty moved with her family to a farm south of Silver City, Iowa. It was in Silver City where she was baptized and attended school.

On December 17, 1941, Betty married Lyle Henry Hansen in a double ceremony with her brother Ernest and his wife Minna. They were married in the Lutheran Church parsonage in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Betty and Lyle farmed south of Glenwood, Iowa and to this union one son, Larry Lyle, was born on March 8, 1944. After five years, they moved to a farm west of Wales, Iowa. Two years later, they moved to their home farm west of Red Oak, Iowa where they attended Hawthorne Methodist Church. While they lived here, Larry died in an automobile accident in February of 1962. They retired in January of 1977.

Upon retiring, Betty and Lyle moved to Glenwood, Iowa. They joined the First Baptist Church where Betty served several years on the Board of Deaconesses and Lyle served on the Board of Trustees. Betty also sang in the church choir and had many solos with them. This was the home church of Betty's parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. Betty and Lyle celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1991 and their 60th anniversary in 2001 in this church.

Betty and Lyle were a working team and together they raised many hogs. Betty liked keeping a home, which was her pride and joy. She was an excellent cook and was locally noted for her divinity. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, and sang in the choir of each church she attended. She sang solos with the choir, served on many committees in the church, and played piano for the Sunday School for sixteen years. In later years, Betty joined Calvary Baptist Church in Glenwood. Her one wish was that all people would come to Jesus and accept Him as their Savior.

Betty passed away at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood on May 1, 2009, at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle in 2002; son Larry; her parents; brothers, Albert Stille and wife Lurline, Walter Stille and wife Opal, Ernest Stille and Lee Stille; and sisters, Leona Henderson and husband Kenneth, Ila Fae Sieck, and Pearl Young and husband Leland; and brother-in-law, Bill Huff.
