Maxine V. Ford

Maxine Verenice ( Fay ) Ford, one of seven children of Harold Andrew and Alice Emma Marie (Detgen) Fay, was born on August 15, 1934 near St. Francis, South Dakota. She grew up near St. Francis and attended Crookston High School in Crookston, Nebraska.

Maxine and Fenton Wayne Ford were married on March 15, 1953 in Valentine, Nebraska. They made their home in Mission, South Dakota before moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1954 and then into Henderson, Iowa in 1960. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Janelle Rae, Marlene Kay, Gary Wayne, Shirley Diane, and Sheri Lynne.

Maxine worked as a waitress in several cafes in Valentine before moving to Iowa. She worked at Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa for 23½ years before retiring in 1989.

Maxine enjoyed being a mother and raising her children, working at Union Carbide, bowling, camping, fishing and traveling with Wayne in their RV. After giving up the traveling, they settled down back in Council Bluffs in 2004.

Due to health problems, Maxine moved to the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs in August of 2009. She passed away at Risen Son on January 7, 2010, at the age of 75 years, 4 months, and 22 days.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Alice Fay; grandson Ryan Umphreys, infant brother Gale Fay and brother Bernard Fay.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wayne Ford of Council Bluffs; children, Janelle Williams and husband Doug of Henderson, IA, Marlene Garde and husband Dennis of Tahlequah, OK, Gary Ford and wife Sharon of Villisca, IA, Shirley Trumbly and husband Bob of Paola, KS, and Sheri Ford of Fremont, NE; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; sisters, Delpherine Harris of Wilmington, OH, and Glenys Breuklander of Tahlequah, OK; brothers, Arlo Fay and wife Madonna of Sioux City, IA, and Wilbur Fay and wife Loraine of Crookston, NE; sister-in-law Dee Fay of Callaway, NE; and many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
