Marvin Keith Brammer, one of fifteen children of Fern May (Gray) and Raymond Thomas Brammer, was born on March 18, 1934 on a farm near Woodburn, Iowa. Fondly known as "Mike", he grew up in the south central Iowa area where his family lived and farmed. In 1950, the Brammer family moved to a farm near Thurman, Iowa and Mike graduated from Thurman High School in 1953.
Marvin met Betty Elaine Wise of Tabor, Iowa in the spring of 1953. They were married on February 25, 1954 at the home of Rev. Irvin Mitchell in Tabor. They lived in Shenandoah, Iowa briefly, before moving to Nebraska in the spring of 1954. Three years later, Marvin and Betty returned to Tabor. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Deborah Louise, Michael Lee, Susan Carol and Timothy Keith.
Marvin worked construction in Omaha, Nebraska for 14 years. He then worked for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Tabor from 1968 until 1977. Marvin purchased and operated Tabor Hardware & Heating until 1981, and then worked at the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, Iowa until his retirement in 1997.
When Marvin wasn't working, he found time to enjoy camping, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Marvin passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 25, 2010, at the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 7 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Deborah Kinzie in 2002; brothers, Kenneth Brammer and Richard Brammer; and sisters, Elaine Archer and Marjorie Brammer.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Brammer of Tabor, Iowa; children, Mike Brammer and wife Kathy of Liberty, Missouri, Susan Houchens and husband Gene of Lincoln, Nebraska; Tim Brammer and wife Linda of Glenwood, Iowa; son-in-law Bob Kinzie of Glenwood; nine grandchildren, Trisha Inks, Ryan Shere, Amy and Aaron Brammer, Justin Cochran, Zachary Houchens, Josh and Chris Brammer, and Melissa Elwood; four great grandchildren, Alex Hastie, Jesse James, Olivia Inks, and Mallory Ryan; brothers, Norman Brammer of Weldon, IA, Tom Brammer of Tabor, Gene Brammer of Milo, IA, Jerry Brammer of Dunbar, NE, Rex Brammer of Winterset, IA, Herbert Brammer of Macedonia, IA, and Raymond Brammer of Malvern, IA; sisters, Lois Meier of Randolph, IA, Violet Hankins of Stanberry, MO, and Bonnie Bryan of Elliott, IA; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the University of Nebraska Cancer Research Center.
Interment in the Tabor Cemetery.
