Dale Edward Marsh, one of eight children of Dorothy Mae (Pickinpaugh) and Gerald Richard Marsh, was born on August 20, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in the Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa area, and graduated from Omaha North High School. In November of 1965, Dale joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Parachute Rigger and Parachute Inspector I. In July of 1967, Dale was honorably discharged and received the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Badge (Rifle m-14), Vietnam Service Medal, and Parachutists Badge. For a time, he worked as an over-the-road truck driver. Dale began work at the Univar Chemical Company in Omaha, where he worked for 30 years as an inventory coordinator.
Dale and Mary (Gilbert) Marsh were married in October of 1967. They divorced in 1976. Dale and Carol Sue Jenkins were married on February 25, 1984.
Dale was a member of the Macedonia City Council, American Legion Post 648, and the Macedonia Fire & Rescue Department. He had been an EMT since 1993, served as an EMS chief for 13 years and had trained many people. Dale volunteered at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs as an EMT evaluator. He loved helping save lives. Dale enjoyed fishing and hunting, restoring cars, and was an avid Sooners fan. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends.
Dale and Carol were married 27 years when he died of a heart attack on May 31, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs. He had attained the age of 62 years, 9 months, and 11 days. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Alan Marsh, who died in Vietnam.
Dale is survived by his wife Carol Marsh of Macedonia; children, Alan Marsh and wife Brenda of Tampa, FL, Sonja Worth of Dunlap, IA, Christopher Marsh and wife Britney, and Heather Marsh and Danny Keene, all of Macedonia; six grandchildren; and one great grandson; brothers, Larry Marsh and wife Linda of Council Bluffs, and Steve Marsh of Carson, IA; sisters, Mary Marsh of Woodbine, IA, Linda Miles and husband Bob, and Sandra Sorman and husband Paul, all of Omaha, NE, and Doreen Coleman and husband Mark of Carson; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
