Francis George Cody, one of two children of Mary Geneva (Lynch) and George Edward Cody, was born on February 22, 1941, in Jefferson, Iowa. Francis grew up in Grand Junction, Iowa and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1959. Following graduation, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked at Western Electric and the Monroe Calculator Company. Francis was very interested in computers and was involved with the first computer installation in Omaha.
Francis and Marilyn June Mullins were married on May 12, 1962 at her parents' home in Paton, Iowa. The couple moved to their present farm near Griswold, Iowa in 1964. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Rich, Ron, Michaele, and Randy.
Francis continued working in Omaha while he farmed. He loved farm life and enjoyed moving and working the dirt with any type of equipment. He also worked various jobs including being an adjustor for crop insurance. Francis eventually rented out his farm land and became a rural mail carrier for the Red Oak, Iowa Post Office, until his retirement in 2002.
Francis greatest love was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He and Marilyn were married 49 years, when Francis passed away at their home on July 9, 2011, at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law David Chappell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie & Elva Mullins; and brother-in-law Joe Frey.
Francis is survived by his wife Marilyn Cody of Griswold; children, Rich Cody and wife Ann of Carson, Ron Cody of Griswold, Michaele Chappell of Griswold, and Randy Cody and wife Lynn of Carson; five grandchildren, who were so special to him, Justin Cody, Jesse Cody, John Cody and wife Taylor, Becca Cody, and Sarah Cody; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Cody; sister Rose Frey of Crossville, TN; other relatives
A memorial fund has been established.
Interment in the Carson Cemetery.
