Mary Stephania Christensen was born on September 24, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska, the only child of Czechoslovakian immigrant parents, Stephania (Nesiba) and Joseph Vogltanz. She grew up in Omaha and attended school through the 11th grade. Following school, Mary worked at the Livestock Exchange Building in Omaha. She later worked at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska in base supply records.

Mary and Norman Christensen met on a blind date through a friend of Mary's. They were united in marriage on September 1, 1953 in Papillion, Nebraska and made their home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving to Hastings, Iowa. In 1956, they moved to live in Henderson, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Carl Steven and Mark Alan.

Mary had attended the Christian Church. She enjoyed being a homemaker, wife, and mother. Mary liked to read and watch movies. She also enjoyed cooking and loved animals.

Mary and Norman were married 58 years when Mary passed away at Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary is survived by her husband Norman Christensen; and sons, Carl Christensen and Mark Christensen, all of Henderson.
