Judy Kegley
November 24, 1937 - April 8, 2008

Jeannette "Judy" Kegley, age 70, a longtime resident of Ames, died Tuesday, April 8, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way. A private family service is being planned. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Judy was born November 24, 1937, in Council Bluffs, IA, the daughter of Charles and Mary Moffatt Young. She graduated from Ames High School in 1955 and graduated with distinction from Iowa State University in 1973 with a degree in English and was named to the honor society Phi Kappa Phi.
She spent her working years counseling women and families at Planned Parenthood, MICA, and the YWCA. She had a keen interest in politics. She was also interested in art, literature, theater, and physical fitness. She enjoyed her granddaughters Meg and Laurel and spent special times with granddaughter Jillian. She especially enjoyed family and holiday gatherings. She was generous, loving and kind to all and was exquisitely sensitive.
She is survived by her husband Colby Kegley of Ames, whom she married on June 19, 1982; three children from her marriage to Barry Holst: Tracy (Del) Holst Pippins of Cedar Rapids, Audrey (Mark) Holst Lair of Ames, and Richard (Diana) Holst of Ames; three grandchildren: Meg Gillette, Laurel Gillette, and Jillian Holst; mother, Mary Young of Story City; sisters: Roberta (Jerry David) Madden of Baton Rouge, LA and Sherry Bradley of Ames; brother Charles Loren (Judy) Young of Rockwood, TN; two stepchildren: Rachel (Tim) McCann of Des Moines and Neil (Stephanie) Kegley of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her father.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House or the American Institute of Cancer Research.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
