In loving memory of

Phyllis Arline Whisnant
August 16, 1921 - June 29, 2012

Phyllis Arline (Brown) Whisnant, 90, of 2200 Hamilton Dr., #502, Ames, IA, and formerly of Chesterfield, MO, died June 29, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2, at Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road, Ballwin, MO, with the funeral service beginning at the same location at 2:30 p.m. Private burial will occur at Forever Bellerive Cemetery in Creve Coeur, MO, at a later date.

Phyllis was born Aug. 16, 1921 to Warrel Henry and Hallie (Satterlee) Brown in Decatur, Ill. She married Lewis Edwin Whisnant in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Dec. 21, 1945. They lived in Illinois until 1971, when they moved to Chesterfield. She moved to Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames in April, 2012.

Phyllis worked as a commercial artist for 14 years before becoming a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved cats, art, the color blue and photography, so it was appropriate that her skill at photography was recognized by a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair in the late 1990s.

She is survived by her son, Kerry, and his fiancée, Lauris Olson, both of Ames; her sister Marilynn (Joseph Roger) Miller of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lew, in 1994; her parents, and two brothers, Paul and Robert.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.

Cindy (Miller) Alt wrote on Jul 3, 2012:

"Our sincere condolences to you, Kerry, for the loss of your mother. Phyllis was always so sweet- and generous- to all of the Miller family. She was a talented artist- she painted portraits of several of us- and we are lucky to have had her in our lives. On behalf of the Miller family, our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Phyllis will be missed- Cindy and Stu (Miller) Alt"
