MORNING SUN, Iowa -- Mellie L. Degen, 97, formerly of Oakville, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Burial will take place in the Edwards Cemetery in Oakville. Family and friends will gather at the Oakville Community Building following the committal.

No other visitations are planned.

Mellie was born on January 3, 1915, in Bowling Green, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Jesse Sevier Lott. She married Raymond Degen on June 18, 1934, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1985.

Mellie enjoyed crocheting and sewing, and loved fishing with Raymond.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Hull and husband, Lyndle, of Hannibal, Missouri, Evelyn Beard of Winfield, and Dorothy Bowers of Burlington; a son, Howard Degen of Burlington; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Foster of Auburn, Washington, and Frances Scoggins of Stanton, Illinois; and a brother, C.R. Lott of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Melvin and John; a grandson; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and eight siblings.
