Janis R. Strum
January 4, 1937 - September 9, 2012

Janis Rae Strum age 75, of Ames died Sunday Sept. 9, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way Ames. A Celebration of life funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday Sept 14, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with burial at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Janis was born Jan. 4, 1937 in Lake City, Iowa the daughter of Merl and Sylvia (Messenger) Doty. She graduated from Lake City High School and later cosmetology college before working at First National Bank in Ames for over 30 years. She married Wayne Strum October 27, 1957 in Lake City. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family, her black toy poodle Ella, trips to Branson and feeding and watching the birds in her back yard.

She is survived by five children, Tracey (Afzal) Khan of Livermore CA. Troy (Kristine) Strum of Ames, Jill (Kenneth) Grant of Nevada, Julie Strum of Ames, and Jason Strum of Ames; five grandchildren Emily, Kerry, Ryan, Brian and Spencer; a brother, Herbert Doty and a sister Joyce Christensen both of Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, and a brother Merl Doty Jr.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Bliss Cancer Center of Ames.
