Howard Eugene "Gene" Darnell
ROCK ISLAND, Illinois--Howard Eugene "Gene" Darnell, 78, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Trinity West Medical Center in Rock Island.
Memorial Service will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Military rites will be by the combined units of the V.F.W. Post 1565 and American Legion Post #27. Inurnment will take place in Overman Cemetery at a later date.
Gene was born on January 25, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Lucille Nelson Darnell. On February 24, 1951, Gene was united in marriage to Nancy- Jo Busch in Iowa City. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was later united in marriage to Dorothy Woodson on February 4, 2010, in Muscatine.
He had been a previous member of the Masonic Lodge.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorothy Darnell of Muscatine; two children, Tommy Darnell and wife, Carolyn, of Lakewood, Washington, and Ronald Darnell of Mt. Dora, Florida; four grandchildren, Melissa Darnell, Anastasia Darnell, Jo-Ell Darnell and Annabellé Miller and husband, John; two step-granddaughters, Angie Bream-Dayton and Doris West; eight great-grandchildren; one special great-granddaughter, Emma Rae; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy-Jo; one daughter, Syvilla Christina Flores; one grandson, Tommy Eugene Darnell, Jr.; and several good friends.
