"Me and Brandon met at 30th AG and we graduated Infantry OSUT together. One thing I always admired about Brandon was the way he rose to the challenge. People would try to discourage him and he would prove them wrong. I remember one time we walked to sick call together, down to Winder. We were talking about military history and had a lot in common. Unfortunately being in separate platoons limited how much time we talked. I am glad we stayed in touch while he was in Afghanistan. He was a good friend and a good solider. Rest In Peace my brother. Infantry leads the way."

"I have never knew anyone who strived as hard as Brandon did to obtain his dream. I remember him working crazy long hours and asking me if he can take his break to meet with his recruiter. We had many hilarious talks in addition to advice given. He was so innocent yet showed great strength and determination. He NEVER let anyone get him down. Those are traits of coming from a strong family. It still brings tears to my eyes to know that he is gone. He wanted to do something that meant a great deal to him and to be remembered by, that he has done. His hyper enthusiasm and awesome way with people will be missed. Our customers loved him as well. My heart goes out to his family. I also remember how he enjoyed having a large family as I have one myself. I can go on and on about our talks and jokes back and forth, it is those times that make me chuckle to myself as I think while driving since the I heard the news. Once again I pray for the family to have strength during this time and to be oh so proud as you read how many people cared for him and respected all he has done. "

Jenny (Goodell) Burkhiser wrote on Nov 8, 2012:

"I will always remember Brandon's beautiful curly dark hair & how he was such a charmer as a kid. He was the friendliest person and it was so sweet, he had trouble sometimes with saying his r's....he often mentioned how he was not as tall as he would have liked. When I talked with him this last May at his going away party at Waubonsie Park, you could tell that the military was just the right fit for him. He really lit up when he was talking about what it was like at boot camp and how he could not wait to go to Afghanistan. It was amazing to see how the young man who wanted so much to be tall was now well over 6 foot! He had grown in other ways, too. In October, Brandon messaged me from Afghanistan and he mentioned that he missed food "you could taste," that he was close to everyone in his family, and that he did not have friends he had made there, but instead that he had "brothers." Brandon is truly a hero & although it is hard to see how God can use this terrible tragedy, I know that Brandon's life, as well as his death, will make an impact on many for generations to come. His life was so meaningful & especially toward its end, full of great purpose. We loved him as a child and who he became as a soldier. I know he is with Jesus now, the ultimate Commander in Chief, serving Him in glory. I will never forget Brandon & cannot wait to see him in heaven someday. Buttry family, we are praying continually for you. We are so very, very sorry. Please know that you are loved and thought of always. Brandon will never be far from our hearts and minds. He has left an imprint on our lives forever."
