Born February 22, 1947 in West Helena Arkansas to Vernice Goldsberry and Jake Green, died November 6, 2012 @ St. Mary's Hospital after an 8 year illness.
He confessed his life to Christ and was baptized at Wofford Chapel in West Helena Arkansas at an early age.
Elias grew up in West Helena Arkansas and attended West Side Elementary and Eliza Miller High School. Right out of high school he joined the Army and served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.
He leaves to cherish his memories his older brother Jesse Bell, and Harry "Buster" Hemphill, Robert "Mickey" Hemphill and his twin brothers Marshall and Michael Hemphill, "The BB's."
Married LoRae Hoosier of Madison WI while stationed in Madison. From this union they had Gillian L'Lee Goldsberry and Kyle Mathew Goldsberry.
He remarried in 1993 to Jennifer Smith from Elkhorn WI. From this union they had Jacob Goldsberry (Jo Ellen).
He also cherished by 2 daughters Vernice Louise Goldsberry (California) and Elisha Sue Malsch.
Elias will be further missed by 1 grandson and 2 granddaughters in California.
He will be missed greatly by his two granddaughters; Audra and Amelia, here in Madison who made him survive longer than the doctors predicted!
He will surely be missed by his remaining aunts of West Helena, Mary Gladney, and Cora and Ora Goldsberry and the rest of his very extensive family.
Elias was a kind sole to a fault. He would go without so others could have. With his gardening he would overplant to feed his family and then give the rest to his friends. Every year people would look forward to see what he was planting for the season.
Elias enjoyed the outdoors spiced with family. Taking all the family on fishing trips that would last until the wee hours of the morning or all day!!! And long trips thru the country side that always seem to turn into an education drive for all involved.
Elias will be missed sorely by all of his family and friends. Until we meet again...............Wink and a smile!
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, November 12, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
