Dr. Larry Duane Brunk
July 25, 1935 - December 12, 2012

Dr. Larry Duane Brunk, 77, of Burlington died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012, At Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.
Born July 25, 1935 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Clifford and Zella Modrell Brunk. On February 1, 1957 he married Sandra K. Giles in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Brunk graduated from Burlington High School in 1953, attended Burlington Junior College, the University of Utah and graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry, in Iowa City, in 1964. He was active in dental research with Dr. Gordon Christensen of Clinical Research Associates for a number of years. He practiced dentistry in Burlington for 49 years.
Dr. Brunk was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Des Moines County Dental Society, Southeast Iowa Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Flying Dentist Society and Association of Experimental Aviators. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, National Rifleman Association and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. Dr. Brunk enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, flying, and running coyotes with hounds. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and passing his knowledge, talents and experience on to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandra Brunk of Burlington; three daughters, Renee (Tom) Dannenbring of Indianapolis, Indiana and Regena Johnson and Krista Brunk both of Burlington; one son, Douglas Brunk of Burlington; four grandchildren, Tara (Craig Jenkins) Dannenbring, TJ Weyls, Brittney Archer, Blake Archer and one great granddaughter, Shayleigh; and two brothers, Arnold Brunk of Kahoka, Missouri and Steve Brunk of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald Eugene Brunk and Jerry Brunk; and one sister, Rosemary Moore.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, December 14th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Dr. Brunk will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15th, at Lunning Chapel. The Revs. Trevor Davis and Larry Garrett will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for a high school scholarship in memory of Dr. Larry Brunk.

"Dr. Brunk was my dentist. Just weeks ago, he went out of his way to make me an emergency appointment because I had a tooth ache. He told me to call me if I needed anything else & gave me his home number. I did end up needing to call & Dr. Brunk kindly answered his home phone at 8 o'clock that night, & called in a prescription for me. I sincerely appreciate his kindness, thoughtfulness, & the warm feeling from he & his staff. My deepest sympathies to his family & co-workers. He was a wonderful man. "
