Lloyd Foresi died peacefully at home on January 1st, 2013 surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart church on Saturday January 5th at 10:30 AM with Rev. Shane Deman officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the church on Saturday. A private internment of the cremains will be held by the family at a later date. Lauferseweiler -Sievers funeral home is serving the family.
Lloyd Foresi was born January 16th 1926 in Fort Dodge. He was the son Giuseppe and Ada Luiga Foresi. Lloyd's parents immigrated from Portocivitanova, Marche, Italy. He was the last of the "East End Italians." Lloyd began his career in the grocery business at a young age using his wagon to make deliveries for his father's store. He attended Fort Dodge public schools. Lloyd left school at an early age and worked at Vincent Clay loading kilns and later at the Stop and Shop and the S&O, the first super markets in Fort Dodge with shopping carts. He stayed in the grocery business working first as a butcher for his uncle, Fred Maranesi, then at the New Public Meat Market and later at Trealor's Restaurant. He worked as a butcher at the Fort Dodge Fruit and Grocery from its opening until it closed in 1978. Lloyd appeared as a guest several times on KVFD's "Cooking with Eve" displaying custom cuts of meat. He operated Lloyd's Grocery for a short time before working for his lifelong friend Sam Camamo at the Big 3. Lloyd retired in 2001. Lloyd married Jean Jolliffe in 1952 in the Quonset hut that served as Holy Rosary church. They made their life together in a home they designed and built with help of Jean's father. Over the years that home became the gathering place for the families' special celebrations. Lloyd's labor of love was his vegetable garden. He was especially proud of his tomatoes, always growing more than he and Jean could possibly use. He looked forward to giving away what could not be canned to whoever drove through the alley. Lloyd's secret sausage recipe has been handed down to the family. Growing up Lloyd was always referred to as the "good kid" by all his neighbors and for many of those neighbors he remained a friend for life. He was an incredible raconteur with an uncanny memory for details. The hours spent regaling his family with tales of the East End, while serving as the unofficial historian, will be sorely missed. Lloyd was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Amalgamated Meat Packers and Butchers union, the Fort Dodge Area Gardeners, a lifelong member of Holy Rosary church and the Holy Trinity Parish. He was a member and the last secretary of the Italian Mutual Society, a fraternal organization of which his father was one of the founding members.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Giuseppe and Ada L. (Maranesi) Foresi, his brother Orlando J. Foresi, infant son Dennis J. Foresi, and several aunts and uncles.
Lloyd is survived by Jean, his wife of 61 years, his son David Foresi and wife Patsy of Raleigh, NC, his daughter Dee Ann Dorrico and husband Mike of Norwalk, Ct. Grandchildren Michael and McKinley Dorrico of Norwalk, CT., David B. Foresi and wife Stacie of Raleigh, NC, Berrin Foresi Ammons and husband Judson of Wendell, NC and Miller Foresi of Raleigh, NC. Sister in law Kathy Foresi, Cousins Robert J. Galask and Pati Oda of Santa Monica, CA, Dr. Rudy Galask and wife Gloria of Iowa City, IA, and Delia Ronconi of Fort Dodge, his nephew John Harmon and special friend Libby and niece Jana (Harmon) Taylor and husband Rob of St. Louis.
The family would especially like to thank Erin Blankernsburg and all the entire staff and volunteers of Trinity Hospice for the kindness, the care and the support they provided to the family.
